Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival

WOODEN SHOE TULIP FESTIVAL
Mar. 21–Apr. 27
The annual bloom of cherry blossoms at downtown Portland’s Waterfront Park is impressive, but an even more colorful burst of flowers appears every spring just 32 miles (51 km) south of the city, in Woodburn. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival blossoms each spring, drawing thousands to come and see 40 acres (16 ha) of tulips in bloom, rain or shine.

Tulip bulbs are classified as early to mid-season flowers. This means that in the Portland area, their bloom season runs from March through May. Likewise, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival runs from mid-March to early May, with the most flowers in full bloom around mid-April. Blooms only last for about two weeks, so don’t wait too long to frolic in these fields!

1st Friday Ceili, Irish Music and Dance

FIRST FRIDAY CEILI, IRISH MUSIC AND DANCE
April 4
This region is rich in Irish music and dance. Dancers have enjoyed Irish social dancing and listening to great live music and callers. What the region hasn't had was a dedicated céilí band — musicians organized to provide music for social dancing. In Ireland and worldwide, céilí bands represent their locality. Two Rivers Céilí Band represents the region with fiddles (Niamh Branigan, Mary Carey, Nancy Jarrell, Elizabeth O'Connor, Therese Vogel, Maria Los), flutes (Angie Cathey, Tamara Mautner), whistles (Emily Dineen, Brenda Scearcy), uilleann pipes (Tania Skinner), guitar (Nancy Conescu) and piano (Teresa Baker).

Live Irish music on the first Fridays of the month, October through May. All dances are taught and called as you enjoy the tunes of Ireland.

Think ‘50s PSA gone totally off the rails.

Warning: This smokin’ satire is strictly for mature audiences due to its blazing drug themes. So, grab your coolest cats, leave the kids at home, and prepare for a groovy night of theatrical mayhem.
